About the tournament
The Tiriac Open presented by UniCredit Bank is the only ATP 250 tournament ever held in Romania and is widely regarded as the country’s longest-running sports event. The tournament ran for 21 consecutive editions from 1996 to 2016 and is named in honor of Ion Tiriac and Ilie Nastase, Romania’s most celebrated tennis icons. After an eight-year hiatus, the event returned in 2024 and put Bucharest back on the international tennis map. Notable champions include David Ferrer, who won his first ATP Tour title here in 2002, and Gilles Simon, the record holder with three titles (2007, 2008, 2012). Other winners include Grigor Dimitrov (2014) and Fernando Verdasco (2016). In doubles, Horia Tecau holds the event record with four titles (2012–2014, and 2016 with Florin Mergea), while Marius Copil and Adrian Ungur won their first ATP Tour doubles title in 2015.
